</div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is a very quick post to show two challenge entries, before they close! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The first entry is for June's <a href="http://scraptheboys.blogspot.com.au/2014/05/june-challenge.html" target="_blank">Scrap the Boys</a>. the challenge was to scrap a 5"x7" photo or larger. I went through some old photos and found a few to choose from. The one I decided on was a 6"x9" photo of my son playing soccer taken over 10 years ago. I had just learnt the sunburst technique and thought it would lend it self perfectly to this layout. So, here it is:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ab04MCnqFhM/U7Fdx8R-uYI/AAAAAAAACJY/0G9IiZtS-r4/s1600/SoccerStar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ab04MCnqFhM/U7Fdx8R-uYI/AAAAAAAACJY/0G9IiZtS-r4/s1600/SoccerStar.jpg" height="398" title="Future Soccer Star by Francine Davis Kaleidoscope-scraps.blogspot.com.au" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I used all Close to my Heart products on this layout. The Patterned paper is from the <a href="http://francine.ctmh.com.au/retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=7650&ci=275" target="_blank">Ariana </a>paper collection, as is the green cardstock. I used <a href="http://francine.ctmh.com.au/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=251&ci=4" target="_blank">black </a>cardstock for the base and stitched the stars and border along the edges of the sunburst using the <a href="http://francine.ctmh.com.au/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=7334" target="_blank">stitch guide</a> ruler. I used two stamp sets - <a href="http://francine.ctmh.com.au/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=6296" target="_blank">Love Life</a> (for the stars) and <a href="http://francine.ctmh.com.au/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=7475" target="_blank">Framework Alphabet</a> for the title. After stamping the title, I coloured in the letters with <a href="http://francine.ctmh.com.au/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=1002" target="_blank">watercolour pencils</a>, and then stitched around them. it wasn't a difficult layout to put together, but I think the result was very effective.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here are a few closeups.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The next layout is from a sketch (#271) by Jenny Evans for <a href="http://creativescrappers.blogspot.com.au/2014/06/cs-sketch-271-reveal.html" target="_blank">Creative Scrappers</a>. I loved the simplicity of this sketch and stuck pretty closely to it, other than that I used two photographs, rather than just one. (Apologies for the quality of the photo, but it's late at night and the lighting is bad.)</span><br />

The cardstock and patterned papers come from the <a href="http://francine.ctmh.com.au/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=7656&ci=281" target="_blank">Timberline</a> pack. I stitched some more using the <a href="http://francine.ctmh.com.au/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=7334" target="_blank">Stitch guide</a>, and the canvas letters and metal embellishments were from an embellishment pack I was able to purchase on special during June. Here's a close up of the canvas letters and some of the stitching. </span></div>

that up again to melt the new layer of powder. I haven't tried that before so I was very happy to find that it worked. I put a scrap piece of gold ribbon behind it, added the three

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The lollipop flowers were made using another technique I hadn't tried
before. The material, </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">an organza style fabric,</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> was actually a piece of gold wrapping "paper" that we had received
a gift in when we were in </span><st1:country-region style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" w:st="on">Singapore</st1:country-region><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">.
The scrapbooker (or maybe I should say hoarder) that I am, I packed it in my
suitcase and said I'll use that one day, and for once I did! I cut circles out
of the material and slightly melted the edges with a candle flame, then layered
them on top of each other and added a white and gold button in the centre. I love
how they turned out! The gold heart paper clip above the right hand flower was
attached to the page with </span><a href="http://francine.ctmh.com.au/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=1030&ci=814" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" target="_blank">liquid glass</a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">. It makes for a kind of epoxy

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For the line of beads, I alternately strung seed beads and bugle
beads onto thin gold wire. To attach it I just poked a hole in the paper at each end and
pushed the wire through and bent it over on the back of the page. It didn't sit
as straight as I would like, so near the centre of each line, I stabbed a small
hole in the page and tied the beaded wire down with some gold metallic thread
so you really can't see where I did it, especially since the knot is on the
backside of the page. To finish off, I added the gold butterfly sequins, gold flower sequins to which I added rhinestone centres, as well as the gold photo corner stickers. Done! </span></div>

versatile, and great for adding embellishments to layouts. The stamp sets I

<span style="font-family: Arial;">The papers
in the kit are from the Kaisercraft <a href="http://www.kaisercraft.com.au/newsite/collections.php?col=92" target="_blank">Hopscotch </a>collection on a kraft cardstock
base. I inked around the edges of all the papers with either <a href="http://francine.ctmh.com.au/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=5443&CatalogID=2089" target="_blank">Cotton Candy</a> or <a href="http://francine.ctmh.com.au/Retail/Product.aspx?ItemID=5445&CatalogID=2089" target="_blank">Lagoon</a> exclusive ink from Close to my Heart. I layered the ribbons to make the line under the main
photograph. I painted the chipboard swirl (I'm not sure of the maker) with <a href="http://www.dreamingcolor.com/twinkling-h2os/" target="_blank">TwinklingH2Os</a> and raised it off the page with some foam tape. There was also a zipper in
the kit and I cut that up and used it as a frame around the smaller picture. I
added some floss to the button and a small bit of folded ribbon underneath. In
my stash I found some old Kaisercraft letter stickers that matched the colour
perfectly, added the pearls and I was done!<o:p></o:p></span><br />

National Scrapbooking Day in October my friends at The Crop Room, an online

lovely Sue. I'm not a real card maker, but usually try to participate in these
challenges and make a few. I don't ever buy anything special, but mostly use up scraps
from my stash and stamps that I have purchased over the years. This year because I have started selling Close to my Heart (CTMH) products, I used some of that for many of my cards too. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I so love the Stitch Guide ruler - probably has to do with the fact that I was a cross stitcher before I was a scrapbooker, LOL! Anyway, I thought it would be good to show all the stitches available on the ruler so I just started punching holes with the ruler and then stitching them with DMC floss from my stash. I also added a few stamps to show that the two things can go together. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11.0pt;">Oh my -
it's been months since I've posted anything on my blog! I haven't
completely given up scrapping, I just haven't been posting about it. Hopefully
I'll be better now that things have kind of calmed down in our household.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

though, with the large photograph and the line of smaller ones below it. These
photos are fairly old, from our trip to the Amazon in 2007. The small pictures
are of a giant river otter (we saw a group of nine of them), a hoatzin, my
children in the boat, a caiman (you can just see its eyes) and a heron. All the papers (Kaisercraft) and embellishments are from my stash. </span></span></div>

I've received my starter kit, and even my first order, so now it's time to play. As I'm very busy with family matters in the next few weeks, I can't hold the open house I have planned just yet, but hope to invite all my Canberra friends to come along and view these great products in September. In the meantime though, I invite you to check out the products on my website <a href="http://francine.ctmh.com.au/" target="_blank">here</a>. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In mid July I went up to Sydney with a group of ladies to the Sydney launch of Close to My Heart stamping and scrapbooking company into Australia. We had so much fun! Several people from Close to my Heart in the US came to Australia (and New Zealand!) to introduce the company and it's products to new and potential consultants. As well as learning about the business opportunities we got to play and made a cute little Thank You card as well as a two page layout. I couldn't wait to get home to add some photos to my page.</span><br />

Well, I'm not really sure what my normal style is as I have tried different styles in the past, but I do seem to keep coming back to simple layouts with some layering and embellishment clusters. Well, that's what a aim for anyway! So, this month I thought I'd have a go at lots of white space à la <a href="http://louise-justloolabelle.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Louise Nelson</a>. I find it very hard not to fill up almost every corner of the page so it was a challenge for me to actually stop adding stuff! In the end, this is what I ended up with:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">While I'm not displeased with the final result, I don't think I'll be doing a layout like this again any time soon. </span></div>

created by sticking the orange triangle beads that I've had in my stash forever,

shrinky dink flower. I had read that you could make your own shrinky dink charms
from #6 recyclable plastic. So, some time ago I die cut a Chloe stem (<a href="http://memoryboxco.com/dies.asp?i=107&s=107&p=1&c=99" target="_blank">98321 from Memory Box</a>) from the plastic
and heated it. The plastic I used (the liner tray from some frozen pies) was
very thin, and I think that the delicate die cut just didn't stand up to the
heating process and it did shrink but became a tangled mess. I couldn't bring
myself to throw it away though and it lay on my desk since but today it came in
handy! (The second one is behind the orange heart shaped bead.) <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here's another <st1:place w:st="on">Bali</st1:place> layout.
This one was made with my LSS (<a href="http://wrappedinpaper.com.au/" target="_blank">Wrapped in Paper</a>) monthly challenge kit. Most
things are from the kit - the cardstock, the patterned papers, the two yellow
paper flowers, the lace and the two ribbons (black and rust at the top of the
layout), the black rose and the black pearls. I added the kraft coloured tags, the
metal embellishments, the yellow star brads, the yellow wooden daisy, the beads and bow, playing card paper scrap, title
letters and the (used) postage stamp which all came from my stash. </span></div>

colours. However, by adding the little extra bits of yellow and the lighter
kraft coloured tags and papers I think it was lifted considerably. The layout
itself is based on a sketch by Kristine Davidson from her first <a href="http://www.creativescrappers.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Creating with Sketches ebook</a>. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I wanted to do something different with the ribbon other
than just lay it on the layout as a strip, or tie a bow or knot in it. Consequently
I was playing with it and accidentally discovered how to make the
"false" bow at the top from the rust coloured ribbon. The cutting of
the black ribbon to make the banners just popped in my head and I put the two
ribbons on top of each other, added a black pearl in the centre of the rust coloured
"bow" and loved the resultant embellishment cluster!</span></div>

the playing card scrap of paper) was fun.</span></div>

were cut using the <a href="http://www.stampinup.com/ecweb/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=114511" target="_blank">Stampin' Up! Little Leaves Sizzlits</a> die. I made the two large
gum leaves on the right hand side of the paper by tracing around actual leaves
that I picked up in the area where the picture was taken. I then cut them out
of the cardstock and lightly drew a pencil line down the centre for the leaf
vein and traced over that with an embossing stylus. The layout was finished off

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bw6YDBkO5Jk/UXxl-LEoF-I/AAAAAAAAB0Q/LIdfpu0UxKg/s1600/signature-blinkie.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="99" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bw6YDBkO5Jk/UXxl-LEoF-I/AAAAAAAAB0Q/LIdfpu0UxKg/s320/signature-blinkie.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I read <a href="http://www.codeitpretty.com/2013/01/automatic-post-signatures-for-blogger.html" target="_blank">this post</a> at Code it Pretty a while back and decided I should try it. But first I had to create a signature. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have seen lots of blinkies and thought I might as well give that a go too. So I looked up tutorials on how to make one. I'm not really sure which one I used exactly in the end! The basic steps I used though were-</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OIVNBE4546Y/UYwm_f-GZ6I/AAAAAAAAB3o/mSPB77acdSU/s1600/3081-SQ16-4_8-5in_watermarked.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OIVNBE4546Y/UYwm_f-GZ6I/AAAAAAAAB3o/mSPB77acdSU/s200/3081-SQ16-4_8-5in_watermarked.jpg" width="200" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">open Photoshop Elements, create a new project. Mine is 810px wide by 250px high at 72 dpi.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">pick a photograph for the background layer - I picked part of this kaleidoscope that I made from a picture of our magnolia tree.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">duplicate the layer and add some bokeh with a bokeh brush - repeat this step several times, duplicating the last layer and adding more (different coloured) bokek</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">duplicate the last layer, add the first letter of text - repeat until word is complete. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">once all the layers are finished, go to the Save for Web option and change the setting to save as GIF (rather than jpeg) and click animate. Change other settings as you'd like. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">save in a Picasa web album. </span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">From that point I followed the instructions in the <a href="http://www.codeitpretty.com/2013/01/automatic-post-signatures-for-blogger.html" target="_blank">Code it Pretty tutorial</a>. I had a problem placing it above the inlinkz gadget, but I left Marie a comment and she responded quickly with a link to the fix for that. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So, I'm very happy with my new automatic signature! If you don't already have a signature why not give it a go too? </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I recommend that you take a look at Marie's <a href="http://www.codeitpretty.com/" target="_blank">Code it Pretty</a> blog. She has some great tutorials on all kinds of things to make your blog look pretty too!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">From the recent Balloon Festival when Kyaa and I went down to
the lake to watch the hot air balloons I had lots of photographs of balloons so
the balloon part was easy! While we were watching the balloons drift over the lake,
we witnessed a balloon land awkwardly on the embankment and went over to offer
assistance. The pilot Craig was most grateful and had us help to manoeuvre the balloon
to more stable ground then let his passengers out. He also got me to help
deflate the balloon by pulling on the cord to release the air from the top. To
help that process along he had me sit on the deflating balloon to stop the air
from coming out the bottom. So Kyaa took a photo of me and Craig decided that
he should "scold" me. He was quite the character and in the end had
us all in stitches. It was an unexpected and fun early morning experience - happy

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I contemplated for some time over what to do with the background

I settled on some stamping and used my (new to me) Stampin' Up! <a href="http://www.stampinup.com/ECweb/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=121166" target="_blank">French Foliage</a> stamps
to randomly stamp the French script and ink splatter stamps in red and yellow.

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Finally I used some letter stickers for the title. I had
wanted to stamp it too with the word celebrate in Ali Edwards type script
stamped over top of some large alphabet stamps for the word spring, but none of
my meagre supply of alphabet stamps would work, so I went stickers instead.
While it's not the look I had hoped for, I actually think it worked better
because I would have had to put the stamped title on the background cardstock
so it would show up, and then it would have been too high on the page. So,
ultimately it was a good result.</span></div>

that I use often (or ever in the case of the hexagons ☺), so it was a great
challenge for me. </span></div>

before her move to the nursing home I inherited about six jars full of buttons.
Rather fitting I think that I used some of them on this layout considering it
is about her. Those that had shanks on them I cut off. Unfortunately the shanks didn't exactly come off flush with the bottom of the button and so I attached them with some foam tape. This month it's white + yellow + sketch. Well, I love sketches and yellow is my favourite colour so how could I resist?!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The most difficult thing with this layout was trying to decide which photographs to use. Once I decided though, the rest was pretty quick. I didn't stray from the sketch hardly at all, other than replacing the tag with another photograph. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Putting the pieces together was fairly straight forward but I will mention a few little tricks I used.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: right;">
</div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dbW3WWB9sDw/UW-U_ZfGNvI/AAAAAAAABw4/JwoAm5BYxhI/s1600/BaliBlooms-sequins.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="99" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dbW3WWB9sDw/UW-U_ZfGNvI/AAAAAAAABw4/JwoAm5BYxhI/s200/BaliBlooms-sequins.jpg" width="200" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: xx-small;">Sequins sewn on with French knots</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I sewed the yellow flower sequins onto the page with <a href="http://www.sublimestitching.com/pages/how-to-french-knot" target="_blank">French knots</a>. First I marked where I wanted the sequins to go, then I pierced a hole with my paper piercer. I brought the floss up from the back of the paper and through the sequin, wrapped the floss around the needle 3 times then put the needle back through the sequin and the paper and pulled it tight. Then I moved on to the next one and repeated the process until all five were done. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I lit a candle and brought the ends of the ribbon close to the flame to "melt" the ends to stop them from fraying. I put the tape on the page then laid the ribbon on top so that it would stay straight. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bfdNtDqj1i8/UW-U6x_TpNI/AAAAAAAABww/URKjo9jXO7E/s1600/BaliBlooms-banner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bfdNtDqj1i8/UW-U6x_TpNI/AAAAAAAABww/URKjo9jXO7E/s200/BaliBlooms-banner.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I placed the <a href="http://www.cheerylynndesigns.com/english-tea-party-doily/" target="_blank">Cheery Lynn English Tea Party doily</a> on the edge of the paper so that I only cut a half doily. I did the same with the circle for the centre, thus saving paper. </span><br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LOXLmLV5bEM/UW-WsI8_jDI/AAAAAAAABxg/Hu9I56ZZFgU/s1600/banner2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="155" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LOXLmLV5bEM/UW-WsI8_jDI/AAAAAAAABxg/Hu9I56ZZFgU/s200/banner2.jpg" width="200" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W6z61F85C_o/UW-WuW93yWI/AAAAAAAABxw/MYOR_Mk9Umk/s1600/banner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W6z61F85C_o/UW-WuW93yWI/AAAAAAAABxw/MYOR_Mk9Umk/s200/banner.jpg" width="178" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For the banner I cut a narrow strip of each paper. I lined up the very end only (where the scallops start) of the <a href="http://www.stampinup.com/ECWeb/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=130159" target="_blank">Stampin' Up! Hearts a Flutter framelits</a> scalloped banner die on the strip to cut the banner pieces as you see on the layout. I stuck them down with a small square of double sided tape in the centre of each piece, then sewed them on my page (piercing the holes first). I figured why not as I already had the needle and floss out! I tied the bows in the floss then sewed them on too. Sewing on the one on the right had the added advantage of affixing the heart shaped paper clip at the same time!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The largest piece of paper was a bit too dark to match the rest of the papers. I glued a piece of mulberry paper over it to tone it down. It also added some texture to the page.</span><br />

Once there was no plate over the die any more it stopped cutting. Then all I had to do was cut the paper across from the sides to where the die had already cut off the rest of the paper.
